Introduction – Public Sector
The requirement to make cost savings in the public sector is well documented. However, with so many buildings and so much land available to them, there is the opportunity for the public sector to make significant savings on their heating and power costs. According to the Energy Savings Trust heating and hot water accounts for around 60% of annual spend on energy bills. Many organisations are now looking at ground source heat pumps as a way of reducing their dependence on fossil fuels, insulating themselves from energy rises and reducing their carbon footprint.

In addition the public sector has great potential as an energy generator. Installation of renewables can help in addressing fuel poverty, assist in securing the country’s energy supply for the future, and provide a steady source of revenue at the same time, with good rates of return.
The Environment Agency and Partnerships for Renewables have urged public sector organisations in the UK to consider using their land and property to generate renewable energy, which has the potential to provide power for over 1.5 million households.
Ground source heat pump arrays have the potential, through utilising local greenspaces, to provide district heating solutions. In low income areas, this could be a way to lift people out of fuel poverty.
As fuel poverty can result in increased levels of sickness, placing additional costs on the NHS and making individuals economically inactive, resolving fuel poverty could be social and financial dividends, as well as environmental dividends from moving to a low carbon fuel source.

We have no ties to any particular supplier and our aim is not to sell you a ground source heat pump. You can be sure that the advice you receive from us will be objective and tailored to provide the best possible outcome for your organisation and the members of the public that you serve.
Ground source heat pumps are expensive, in the region of tens of thousands of pounds, so a feasibility assessment of hundreds of pounds now could prevent you wasting money.
Public Sector – The Process
Geo-Environmental Sciences offer a fully managed service with all costs accounted for and all parts of the process managed by ourselves. We started providing this service in response to requests from clients who had received a GSHP quote, but then had to arrange their own feasibility study, drillers for implementation and then co-ordinate all of the different suppliers. This is difficult for many organisations to manage, as it is outside the remit of their core business activities and the process seemed to be starting in the wrong place, so we put together this service to rectify the problem.
